The Youth Career Initiative (YCI) programme recently celebrated the graduation of its third batch of young trainees from four leading hotels in Jordan.
The ceremony was sponsored by Sheraton Amman as part of its continued support to Jordan’s community. The annual event took place under the patronage of Maha Al Khateeb, Jordan’s Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, who presented the certificates to 20 graduates. She also stressed on the role of the tourism sector as a significant and promising provider for employment in Jordan.
The International Business Leaders Forum’s YCI programme is a six-month education programme that provides disadvantaged young people with life and work skills. The programme is delivered through a unique partnership with the international hotel industry, whereby participating properties provide the human, operational and training resources to deliver the programme. Leading hotel chains including Four Seasons, InterContinental, Hyatt, Marriott, Orient-Express and Starwood help deliver YCI programmes in 11 countries.
The YCI programme in Jordan is locally managed by Jordan River Foundation. The four participating full service properties in Amman that accept candidates into this programme are the Four Seasons, Grand Hyatt, Marriott and Sheraton hotels.
"The batch of 20 graduates included the first Jordanian female who trained at Sheraton Amman, which garnered significant media attention"
Alexander Bieber, Area GM of Jordan & GM of Sheraton Amman said: “It is our honor to participate in the programme, which provides a group of Jordanian youth with work and life skills that will enable them to find relevant jobs not only in hotels and the tourism sector, but also in many other different fields.”
The Director General of the Jordan River Foundation Ms. Valentina Qussisiya underlined the objectives of the YCI programme and expressed her delight at having a female amongst the trainees.
