YCI In Action :: YCI BRAZIL

YCI Started:	2005

YCI Brazil piloted in 2005 at the Marriott properties across the country. Over the last three years many competing hotels including InterContinental, Copacabana Palace, Pestana and Othon have become involved in the programme. Partners including IDIS (Institute for the Development of Social Investment) have assisted with the development of YCI in Brazil.

Case Study 1

Carlos Coelho graduated from the YCI Brazil programme in 2006. He dreamt of becoming a filmmaker.

Students' development is supported throughout the programme by management teams and other staff members who act as teachers and mentors. They naturally get involved with the personal and professional growth of the participants. "We help our YCI students to realise their dreams" said Mr Manrique Rodriguez, General Manager of InterContinental Rio, a YCI host hotel, at the 2006 graduation ceremony in Rio de Janeiro. He then went on to announce that a well-established Brazilian multimedia company had offered a junior post to 19-year-old Carlos.

So he is now a step closer to realising his dream!
